This site features the artwork of Bob Schaefer. His paintings are predominantly in oil and watercolor media depicting landscapes from Martha’s Vineyard and places around the world where he has travelled. He also enjoys painting flowers, many of which are grown in his own gardens. More recently he has introduced portraiture to his work.  He currently favors the use of layered transparent color in both media.  Bob will often add pen & ink to his watercolor paintings to provide additional precision to his work.  He has recently gone back to drawing in graphite, influenced by his oldest son’s new found drawing talent.

About the artist:

Bob grew up as the youngest of 5 siblings and has resided in New England his entire life. He graduated from Brown University with a degree in Materials Engineering, and is retired from a very successful 44 year career in the aerospace industry. He is involved in the community formerly as an active board member of a child guidance clinic in CT and currently as chairman of the All Island Art Show in Oak Bluffs in Martha’s Vineyard. He and his wife moved out of Connecticut and now share time between Martha’s Vineyard and Sarasota Florida.  His artistic journey has been a lifetime in the making, beginning as a simple hobby during childhood and transforming into a true passion as an award winning artist. The precision and creativity from his engineering background along with his love of travel brings a breathtaking and aesthetically pleasing perspective to his art. He is self taught and finds every new painting an experiment and adventure in both style and technique.
